The couture fashion shows always bring a level of hair and makeup dramatic flair deemed too wild, divisive, and/or polarizing for the buttoned-up seasonal runways. After all, there’s nothing safe about fuchsia eyeshadow, rockabilly ponytails, or pairing an Oscar-ready gown with ’90s crimped hair. Ahead, 20 of our favorite looks from the fall 2018 runways that you can start wearing right now.

1. Alexandre Vauthier

A low ponytail was the perfect choice for styling under the hats at Alexandre Vauthier. It’s as feminine as a low bun but styled with a little more ease.

2. Iris van Herpen

Ponytails got an even more complex turn on the runways at Iris van Herpen, where models’ hair was segmented and secured in graphic sections.

3. Giambattista Valli

The hair at Giambattista Valli was rolled under and pinned down to create the illusion of a voluminous short bob. A black hair bow was added for extra drama.

4. Armani Prive

Pink eye makeup never looked so cool as it did at Armani Prive. A line of fuchsia liner was traced just above the crease to give a pop of color with some edge.

5. Giambattista Valli

The peachy eye and natural, dewy skin look at Giambattista Valli would have been boring had it not been for the flesh colored sticker placed across the eyebrow, lending the illusion of a shaved section.

6. Pamella Roland

It was all about cobalt eyeshadow backstage at Pamella Roland. Paired with a nude lip, the colorful shadow reminds us of the KKW Beauty x Mario collection.

7. Tony Ward

Gray eyeshadow, winged out from the bottom and upper lashline, was only matched by the opulent hair accessories on the Tony Ward couture runways.

8. Christophe Josse

At Christophe Josse, a wash of soft pink eyeshadow wasn’t even the biggest beauty moment: models walked the runway with their hair crimped in ’90s style waves. If crimps have made it to the couture runways, it’s only a matter of time before street style catches on.

9. Alexis Mabille

Peachy and pretty was the name of the game at Alexis Mabille. Lips were glossy and so was the hair, styled in soft, undone bends.

10. Ralph & Russo

Ralph & Russo took a decidedly ’80s approach to makeup this season, pairing a bold eyeshadow with a satin red lipstick.

11. Antonio Grimaldi

A low chignon got a badass upgrade with the addition of a new kind of headband made of goth spikes and positioned like a mohawk down the back of the head.

12. Givenchy

Dramatic headpieces have long been a staple at Givenchy shows. Clare Waight Keller brought the look back for couture this season, though done in a shockingly pretty chainmail-style.

13. Christian Dior

No-makeup makeup was in again at Christian Dior, where models got little more than a few touches of base makeup and a filled-in brow.

14. Chanel

Hairstylist Sam McKnight and makeup artist Tom Pecheux are the dream team behind most Chanel shows, and they didn’t disappoint for fall 2018. The hair was pulled and twisted into a Rockabilly-inspored ponytail, and the eyes were painted a shocking shade of emerald green with glitter flecks scattered across the lower lashline.

15. Christian Dior

Upgrade a low ponytail by wrapping it in string, as seen backstage at Christian Dior.

16. Givenchy

The models at Givenchy made a soft flick of black eyeliner look like the coolest beauty look of the season.

17۔ Chanel

The models who didn’t get Rockabilly ‘do at Chanel were styled in cool not-quite-hat accessories that upgrade a basic ponytail to something epic.

18۔ Iris van Herpen

We’re not sure if we can label this as makeup or special FX, but we can’t stop thinking about how cool this visual trickery was backstage at Iris van Herpen.

19۔ Armani Prive

The hair at Armani Prive was a simple updo pulled over to one side and tucked loosely behind the ear. We imagine Meghan Markle wearing this style on many upcoming royal occasions.

20۔ Azzaro

We never want to wear matte foundation again after catching a glimpse of the models at the Azzaro couture show. When your skin is this glass-like, all you need is a touch of metallic eyeshadow to make a show-stopping statement.
